FOOTHILL FOCUSNumber 6 JUNE 2009 Volume 17Looking into the Summer Sometimes our summer schedules fill up before we include all the events we'd like take part in. Here are a few dates to get on your calendar for thecoming summer: June 13, 2 p.m.-A Saturday afternoon baptism at the beach. Maddie Royko, a girl born and raised on the midwestern plains will be baptized in the PacificOcean (brrrr!). If others would like to be baptized then, please talk to PastorJim. June 14, 5:30 p.m.-Sunday. Our Congregational Annual Meeting will start with a supper together. We will do expected annual business, i.e. elections, reports, budgets and we'll look into our future. July 29-August 1-We will be holding a mini-Music camp Wednesdaythrough Friday mornings, culminating in a Saturday morning concert. It's for kids ages 6-11 and involves choral singing, handbells, crafts, stories, and other activities. You may know a child who would like to come. Pick up a brochureon a Sunday. You may like to be on the staff, talk to Jenni Gaderlund, who will direct. You may simply want to enjoy the concert on that Saturdaymorning. August 1, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.-We will invite our neighbors for our annual neighborhood BBQ. Plan on coming and helping set up or cook and/or hangingaround with and welcoming our neighbors. We've received lots of encouragement from our neighbors for hosting this gathering time for the past fewsummers and we've now gained new attenders because of the BBQs. August 23, 5:30 p.m.-At an additional Congregational Meeting, we will act on the proposed constitution and by-laws. Copies of the constitution andby-laws are available in the church office. Vision to ActionWhat's happening on our vision teams? Here's what is happeningCommunity Connections: We have continued to host INDOOR PARK, an informal, every-Thursday (11-Noon) play time for kids, 0-3 years beyond the rainy season through the end of June . It's been a great time for moms, dads, and kids to gather. Thanks to Sarah Cerrona for creating and leading this ministry. Soon our team will begin planning for our mini-Music camp and our neighborhood BBQ. Talk to Jenni Gaderlund about the camp or Mark Liedstrand about the BBQ if you'd like to get involved. Mentor/Tutors: Most of our mentors and tutors will be taking the summer off. If you'd like to become a mentor or tutor next fall please contact Jim Gaderlund. There are a number of fine programs in our communities and schools are give great support to mentors and tutors and make it easy to start.
Did You Know . . . ? that Jenni Gaderlund's Graham Middle School choir recently attended a middle and high school choral festival in southern California and came home with "huge" First Place trophies in every category they entered! . . . or that Ioanna Grigore recently passed her American citizenship test and will be welcomed as a new citizen of the USA in a few months! . . . or that Karen & Kreig Ecklund have used all of the "Liberian Emergency Medical Funds" that we collected in April for a kind of informal "medical clinic" near their home. We will replenish the fund with our June 7th Love Offering. See the Missions Board for pictures and stories of some of Karen's patients. GRADUATESCongratulations to our graduates:
If there are others whom we've missed, please let us know so we can celebrate their accomplishments CONGREGATIONAL ANNUAL MEETING We will gather for our Congregational Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 14th, at 5:30 p.m.. We will begin around the supper table sharing great food and good conversation. When we begin our business, it will include the election of officers and board members, passage of a budget to fund our ministries in 2009-10, and open conversation about the next year in the life of our congregation. We are welcoming some new members at this meeting, but you do not need to be a member to participate in the discussions and the fellowship at our meeting. To help prepare for the meeting, sign up after church on the next couple Sundays to contribute something delicious to the potluck supper. Pick up an annual report with a nominating ballot and a proposed budget and look it over before you arrive. Come having thought about how you've seen God working at Foothill over the past year.
